“If I enjoy hating life I don’t hate life, I enjoy it.” – Gregory House M.D

Well, it’s been quite some time since I updated my blog here, so I figure whilst I sit at working…doing nothing, I have some time to update.

When things happen in the week, I always try to make a mental note if it’s worth blogging about, but by the end of the day I have either completely forgotten what it was that was blog-worthy, or just too tired/xbox-ed to update.

This week has been alot of fun! Darias Easter holidays are….a month early so she spent the entire week at mine, and we just relaxed, played some games, watched some movies, had adventures around Birmingham and generally spent some quality time together. It’s times like that which are my favourites. Knowing we have alot of time together takes my mind of the whole ‘Omg, shes leaving in x amount of time must fit everything in/make it worthwhile’ to ‘We have alot of time, lets just go with the flow’.

We had a little adventure along the Birmingham Canals, and we just kept walking untill we had absoloutely no clue where we were, and totally lost our bearings. I would say we were walking for about 45minutes to an hour and we got to the point where we were officially lost.

We found a few streets and started walking, in hope we would recognise where we were. Well, no such luck. Another 5-10 minutes walk and we were right by Snow Hill Station, with no idea how we got there!

On another day, we went to see Alice in Wonderland at the IMAX theatre in Millenium Point. Well, that was an amazing experience. The IMAX itself has to be seen to be believed. Personally, 3D looks SO much better on an IMAX screen than a regular cinema screen. It takes 3D to a whole new level. The choice of film was alright too, but I wonder how much I’m rating it up based on the IMAX screen? The actual film and concept and story was good, but a poor choice of actors didn’t help.

Mia Waskowska who played Alice seemed really ‘uncomfortable’ in her role, she didn’t flow or seem like she was particularly enjoying her self. Also, seeing Matt Lucas as the Tweedledum and Tweedledee was really strange. Yes, it was funny, but he had to use his ‘Vicky Pollard’ skills like in Little Britain. However, voice acting from Stephen Fry was amazing!

Another film I went to see yesterday was Green Zone. That was a very good film, but it felt really cheap. They spent too much money on the location and props and effects, but not enough on the story. What was going to happen was predictable for about 40 minutes before the end of the story. But, it was still gripping and admittedly remains one of the better ‘drama’ movies I’ve seen in a while. However, it was a bit ‘simple’ too. After seeing the likes of ‘Generation Kill’, ‘Hurt Locker’,  ‘Jar Head’and playing games such as ‘Operation Flashpoint’ and ‘Full Spectrum Warrior’, I know how the Army works, and the way they communicate. Some of the actions and script was laughable, and Miller would have had his ass Court Martialled within 30 mins of the movie.

I’m also lucky to have a girlfriend who sympthasises with my gaming addiction, which has really appeared out of nowhere recently after Battlefield was released. That game is a lot of fun with friends, but no so much when you without. I was playing by myself with no squad for most of the evening, when a friend joined me and he was Medic and I was Assault. I was racking up the kills fith my F2000 and 40m, and he was close behind offering support and health. Was an amazing experience. The night before, I had a full squad of strangers and we were really helping each other out. I was playing Medic/Engineer role and was really getting some serious revives. I also managed to get a kill with the paddles too! Hilarious.

I’m also ashamed to admit that I enjoy sniping in this game. The reason is, rewards. This game is SO satisfying when you get a kill with the sniper from halfway accross the map. Reason being because you have to work for the kills. When taking your shot, gravity and distance really are a big factor in where you aim your sights. Theres nothing better than leading your target, pulling the trigger only to see a cloud of crimson and the body stumble to the ground. However, it’s important to understand when and where a sniper is needed. For example, if theres 5 snipers on your team already, camped up at the back of the map next to each other on a cliff, you dont need to be a sniper. Be assault.

However, if you are on the opposite side and theres 5 enemy snipers camping at the back of the map on a mountain side, whip out that sniper and take the shot. Too many times do people sit next to each other when they are sniping. Idiots.

I also decided to trade in Fifa 10 and get Heavy Rain for PS3 instead. Good choice it seems. On Heavy Rain, I don’t get a loud mouthed twat in my earhole ordering me what to do, and telling me every foot I take is the wrong one. I also avoid a headache after 30 minutes. Instead, I am gripped by the story, and I’m really attatched to the characters involved, especially Shelby. The way your actions influence the story is crazy

*SPOILER*

There was a part that amazed me. As Detective Shelby, I was at a store whhich specialised in selling Typewriters. I had to find out which kind of a typewriter was used to type out a letter. So, as the owner of the store goes out back to collect a record of every person who purchased a Royal 5 typewriter, we hear a gunshot. Rushing to the back of the store, he’s lying in a pool of blood. The Origami Killer knew that Shelby was close to finding out who he was, so took out the guy who was about to give us information. However, because Shelby is a private detective he doesn’t want to be framed for the murder, so I have to remember EVERYTHING I touched since entering the store. This included a telephone I answered to help out, the door handle, a clock, a little trinket box and the glasses we used to have a drink. I somehow managed to forget the phone that I picked up that fell off the holder when the store owner died.

Next cut scene, I’m in the police staion being questioned!

*END OF SPOILER*

Daria and I have also been blasting our way through the remainder of Season 2 of House. Roll on season 3, House is my Hero 🙂

Also, all but my number on choice of Universities have replied back to me, which is really upsetting. I’m tempted to ring up and ask if they have replied to anybodies offers for CMS, but I don’t want them to get my name, because I think they will just instantly reject my application for being too pushy. I guess they have untill the end of March to reply, but c’mon. I got my application off before the deadline, so what’s taking so long? I wish they knew how important getting that offer is to me.

This afternoon, I’m going to play some more Battlefield 2 if the servers are up and running, and maybe even some MAG.
